I haven’t felt the urge to throw a controller so far…
or in this case a game system until Fire Emblem Awakening. I read about it’s difficulty, even the easy or casual mode being difficult, but sometimes the challenge is bordering on ridiculous. It only takes one misstep and your 30+ min game is over. You can have a nearly perfect play through but then something will come up and around your defense and have a one hit kill ending the entire game. Unlike Etrian Odyssey, where I am used to death and reloading, FE:A makes me want to chuck the little handheld system against the wall and then take a hammer to it. It’s vicious!
I find the game to be fighting against me. I’ve managed to muscle my way through 9 chapters and some side quests and battles, so I must be playing right, but it’s just a weird game style that I’m not used to. I suppose this means I’m enjoying it since I do obsess over it enough to keep playing and fighting through. It does feel good when you beat a chapter, not so good when you lose. It’s a game. That’s what the point is I guess. I think I’m starting to like it though. I like the story and characters and animation, the soundtrack is pretty awesome probably one of the top 10 soundtracks of 2013. It’s good.
Update 1: There is a slight probabilty that the problem might be just that I terribly suck at this game.
Update 2: I just received some new Fire Emblem themed stationary along with a personal not from Narihiro the producer in Swap Note which is really awesome, but it doesn’t change anything. But it does look awesome. Swap Note. You all should update Swap Note.
